Balázs Szeneczey (HU)

Deputy Mayor for City Development, Budapest

He was born on 19 November 1975 in Szombathely, Hungary. He is married and has two children: Balázs and Szaffi.

He attended the English-German language specialised class of Révai Miklós Secondary Grammar School in Győr, Hungary. He obtained a state-recognised, oral and written language exam in both languages (he also passed the Goethe Universität – Zertifikat language exam). After completing the school-leaving exams, he was admitted to the Faculty of Law, University of Pécs, Hungary. He wrote his thesis paper on the development of modern municipalities’ system.

He graduated as a lawyer in 2000. He obtained the qualification of lawyer of European law in 2003.

He worked as a lawyer-candidate until 2004; after he obtained the qualification to practise law, he worked as a private lawyer between 2005 and 2010.

He became the Head of Cabinet of the Mayor of Budapest in October 2010.

In June 2012 he was elected as Deputy Mayor for city development by the General Assembly of the City of Budapest. As a deputy mayor, he is responsible for performing duties related to projects co-financed by the European Union, urban development, urban planning and the protection of urban built environment. Furthermore, it falls within his competence to supervise the major investments of the Municipality of the City of Budapest.

He led the mayoralty campaign of István Tarlós in 2014. He was re-elected as Deputy Mayor on 7 November 2014 by the General Assembly of the City of Budapest.
